There can be no more powerful symbol of our commitment to remembering the Jewish men, women and children murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators than placing the memorial in Victoria Tower Gardens.

The Memorial will stand as a reminder of the horrors of the past and will encourage reflection on their implications for British government and society, both at the time and subsequently. The view of Parliament from the Memorial will serve as a permanent reminder that political decisions have far-reaching consequences.

Why we need a memorial

"We need a memorial.
A place for young people
to come in and talk about it,
listen about it.
Remembering what happened
and to remember what shouldn't happen."
MARTIN BENNETT
Holocaust Survivor
"It’s so important for
every person to understand
the story of the Holocaust,
the history of WWII, the reasons
the Holocaust was wrong
and why we were selected."
MIRIAM FREEDMAN
Holocaust Survivor
MIRIAM FREEDMAN
Holocaust Survivor
"Where better place for
the Memorial than
such a prominent place near Parliament.
It's amazing, there is
the WWI memorial there
and the Cenotaph and
that is the best place possible."
JAN GOLDBERGER
Holocaust Survivor
"The planned Memorial should be
situated next to Parliament
as it's a good place to be actually.
It's a reminder,
if people need reminding."
KURT MARX
Holocaust Survivor
Slide "Having the names and stories
of our loved ones in the Centre
is something that I personally
feel very much committed to."
ERIC MURANGWA EUGENE MBE
Founder and CEO of The Ishami Foundation
"By putting our
National Holocaust Memorial
and Education Centre next to
our Parliament we make a solemn
and eternal promise that
Britain will never forget
what happened in the Holocaust."
THE RT HON THERESA MAY MP
Former UK Prime Mininster
"I set up the Holocaust Commission
in January 2014 and I am so
delighted that they recommended
this incredible National Memorial
at the heart of our democracy
next to our Parliament."
THE RT HON DAVID CAMERON PC
Former UK Prime Minister
"There can be no more
powerful symbol of our
commitment never to forget
the Holocaust than that
we should create right
at the heart of our democracy
a permanent memorial
and a learning centre. "
THE RT HON GORDON BROWN HonFRSE
Former UK Prime Minister
"Antisemitism and hate did not end
in 1945. Unfortunately, today
some of this poison is back
from the political fringe
to parts of the political mainstream.
So it’s absolutely right that this new
National Memorial is
situated right next to Parliament."
THE RT HON TONY BLAIR
Former UK Prime Minister
"The Holocaust is one of the
most evil acts in history,
It must never be forgotten.
A memorial near to the
House of Commons reminds us
what happens when democracy fails."
